Sanctuary Dogs
Sanctuary Dogs
Hi, I’m Daisy! I am one of the original AAO dogs… way back from 2014-15 when the organization was founded. I came from a meth house and was a teen mom… I was bred before I was one year old and had a litter. My former owner from the meth house tried to run a scam and had someone selling my puppies when they were only three weeks or four weeks old. But AAO got me out and also rescued my pups! Well most of them… three of them were stillborn from when my methhead owner kicked me in the stomach.
So, when Matthew Albert first started fostering me, I was a quiet and reserved dog who didn’t trust men at all. That lasted for like a whole day or two… I realized right away that I was safe there. I had an older Rottie sister named Willow who gave me so much confidence… we used to play so rough but it was so fun!! Willow used to put my whole head in her mouth… she was the best sister anyone can ask for. When she passed suddenly two years ago from cancer at age 8, Matt knew he needed to get to a sanctuary asap… he said he needed land for us and couldn’t wait any longer or lose anyone else. I know he still misses her so much… he has her face tattooed on his arm next to my face!
He tells me Willow is the reason I’m here! He previously had other fosters too but Willow liked me the best… he said he got me for Willow. But he loves me too… I sleep with him and the cats every night. I still am leery of men who I first meet but otherwise than that am the most happy-go-lucky dog ever. I’m very spoiled and when I don’t want to go somewhere, I pretty much just play dead like in this photo and make Mom or Dad carry me. Other than that, I look forward to running wild in the fields every day and raising hell… that’s what I do!
Hi everyone! I’m Tiger. So much as happened since I arrived at Against All Oddz! Vanessa has brought her army, and many of you have mentioned how handsome I am. Thank you for the compliments!!! I love them, but I love Nylabones and Hugs even more. Anyway, I wanted to tell you all my story. It is a pretty sad one, and my Against All OddzMommy and Daddy have cried about it. Lots of people have.
Anyway, I am a three-year-old Presa Canario. I had a Daddy that loved me in Orange County, California. One day, I was outside with him and talking with a neighbor and her kids. One of the children got her shirt stuck in a leaf blower. She screamed. I guess the Mom went to help her and pull her shirt out, but at the time, I thought she was hurting her because the child screamed even louder! So I went to help the little girl and I hurt the Mom a little bit. Not badly, just a couple of stitches… I really thought the child was in danger!
So then they seized me. They ordered me to die unless my Dad and his neighbor could find me a sanctuary. And they did!!! Against All Oddz!!! But here’s the worst part. The Orange County, California Animal Control director, Andi Bernard and Sargent Espino, kept me in a 3 x 4-foot crate for 71 days. I’m like 6 feet long!!!! My ligaments became crippled and deformed. I already had hip dysplasia and even dwarfism… but being confined like that exacerbated my conditions and probably took years off of my life. When I got to AAO, I couldn’t walk at all. My new Daddy cried a lot and he was furious. He tried to get those people locked up, but no one cared. My new daddy said a lot of cops just care about writing tickets to get money for the government… they don’t care about helping innocent dogs like me. He tells me lots of things when we walk in the woods. I tell him that I have a crush on Vanessa… we have a lot in common and we lay near each other a lot. While my Daddy gets upset a lot about the way the world is, I don’t. I just like hugging and licking people and taking sun naps with people. It’s nice here… everyone who comes here loves me, and I love all of them! I’m pretty much a big baby.
Anyway, I am moving a ton better now and can run. But my new parents say they are going to make me move better than I even did before Orange County crippled me! I am starting water therapy next week and hoping you guys can maybe help me out a little with the bills?? I’ve been to the vet a lot since I’ve been here… they also fed me ropes in Orange County so I had to get emergency surgery since I was here too. I’ve been through a lot. Ugh! But anyway… things are definitely looking up for me, #AGAINSTALLODDZ
Hi everyone! I’m Quica. My parents also call me Mr. AAO, the caramel kid, and Quicaboo. I was found on the streets of Baltimore when I was five years old with cigarette holes in my fur. I was taken into a shelter and then into a Maryland rescue. This is where things got crazy and started not just my journey, but the path to this sanctuary that y’all love so much!
At the old rescue, I was at, a one-year-old pitty named Hazel jumped a fence into my space, and we fought pretty well. I redirected on the person who broke it up, and the old rescue brought both of us to a vet’s office to get euthanized. Because Hazel was so young, they wouldn’t do it. Somehow someway, AAO was contacted and the next thing I know, both Hazel and I came to Buffalo, NY.
AAO found Hazel a great home in like three days. Three and a half years later… I’m still here!!! And always will be. It’s not that they didn’t try… they did. They found me good homes, but due to my past trauma, I couldn’t make it work. Sh** happened. My Daddy soon knew he needed a place for me and dogs like me. So he hustled, bobbed, and weaved to keep me alive for a couple of years until he met Mama Kim and they got the sanctuary! I get alone time in the big house with Mommy and Daddy every day and they basically tell me how amazing I am all the time. I bring my BFF in with me… a pet stuffed sloth who makes me feel safe.
I know my parents get very stressed so much… they both go through so much that they don’t talk about. But. Once a day, me, and the two Rottie girls, Daisy and Lola, get recess. That means we get an hour a day where we run loose in the fields together. We can go anywhere we want as long as we stay in our parent’s sight. I try my best to do so, but there is so much out there! And as my parents see me sprint to the fields and mysteries of enchanted forests, groundhog holes, and deer pads, with love in my heart and mischief in my eye, I always see them smile. And no matter how bad their days are going, at that moment, they know it was worth it. It was all worth it.
Hey everyone! My name is Buster. So, many of you know Vanessa but did you know that I was AAO’s first sanctuary dog (not their first rescue dog, that was the legendary Hulk, AKA Sammy back in 2015)!?
Hi everyone! I am Alfredo! Or ‘Fredo. I am almost 5 years old and I’ve been told I have some seriously good looks! I have some serious spunk as well. I am not quite ready to leave the sanctuary life just yet. I am getting closer each day. I am still working on some skills so I can become a perfect gentleman.
Hey all… I’m Mica! So I’m a long time resident now with AAO and I swear, I’m ready for my permanent home! I’m a 2.5-year-old Husky/ Shepherd mix and I’m so much more than just a pretty face… though I certainly am that! So I was with another rescue that didn’t train me and instead was ready to put me down. They even had a date scheduled for my demise when AAO took me instead. I admit, I was a handful. I had these impulse control issues and when I felt uncomfortable, excited or scared, I would jump at people’s faces and occasionally… I connected. But I don’t do that anymore! Promise!! Haven’t acted like that in almost a year!
Now I listen so well. You name it, I do it. Fetch, walk, Place, lay down, roll over, agility… I’m an athlete and a scholar. I love the sanctuary and everyone there. I have learned a lot there. But I really think I’m ready for my forever home now where I can be a part of a family and go on hikes and all sorts of activities. I’m in my prime and am ready to find my forever family.
